Clifford A. Bantleon, 85, of Edwardsville, died Saturday in a Topeka hospital.
He was a longtime attorney in Kansas City, Kansas (practicing for 64 years). He served as regional counsel for the Small Business Administration and earlier as claims attorney for Central Surety Insurance Company. He was admitted to practice in Kansas, Missouri, and the U.S. District Court.
Born October 2, 1892, in Kansas City, Kansas, he lived there for many years and owned a ranch in Florissant, Colorado, where he spent summers. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated in 1914 from the University of Kansas City School of Law. He was a World War I veteran.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City (and a former vestryman) and was instrumental in establishing St. Martin In-The-Fields Episcopal Church in Edwardsville, where he also served on the vestry. Other affiliations included charter membership in an American Legion post in Kansas City, Kansas; Forty et Eight; a Masonic Lodge; Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity; Sons of the American Revolution; and past president of the Kansas City Claims Association.
He married Mary Barker on February 17, 1917; she survived him. Other survivors included two daughters—Marianna B. Hoover of Salina and Mrs. Virginia Brier—plus eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were planned for Wednesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Kansas, with burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Francis Boys Home (Bavaria) or St. Martin In-The-Fields Episcopal Church (Edwardsville). Arrangements were handled by Davidson-Duff Funeral Home (Topeka) and George Porter and Sons Funeral Home (Kansas City, Kansas).
